About Gilbert Martinez

Gilbert's SY 2010 - 2011 School Picture
Gilbert Martinez, whose real name is Gilbérto Vidal Andrés Martínez, was born in the city of Pasadena,TX on May 12, 1997. He is the co-creator of the show University Place and the admin of this blog. On the show, he portrays Gil, Cigarettes, and Svën. For Gil, he has to put his gloved hand over his mouth in order to muffle his speech. For Cigarettes, he has to have a very spot-on Brooklyn accent. For Svën, he has to have a more Swedish-sounding German accent, which is somewhat easy for him to do since he himself is part-German.

On the show, Gilbert's responsibility is to write the script, compose the show's music, and suggest ideas for future episodes. He also attempts his characters' voices for approval from Daniel, who is a long-time fan of The Ren & Stimpy Show. Gilbert has seen one complete episode of The Ren & Stimpy Show ("Insomniac Ren"), plus clips of other episodes, including the one that co-stars Svën.

Gilbert's grandfather died of lung cancer in June 2008. Gilbert was devastated by this and couldn't move on with it until he turned twelve. But he still shows his unending love and care for his grandfather. A cameo of him appears in "Mi Familia," and some of the events that took place at the real Grandpa Ramos's funeral are accurately retold in "Funeral." As the credits end for both episodes, words appear that say:

Dedicated to
Gilbert "Grandpa" Ramos
(1934 - 2008)

Thanks for helping me get through the first 11 years of my life.
